Android 8.1 will now display Wi-Fi speeds before connecting

If you are hoping to save your time and boost up the speed of your cellular access to WiFi then switch to Android 8.1 Oreo because Google is rolling out some significant features which will make online life much easier. This new update measures the speed of WiFi networks before connection. The feature does not provide detailed Wifi information and exact bandwidth readings instead it will give you categories that help users to identify which WiFi connections are better than others.

Free Public WiFi is present all over and sometimes, it’s difficult to choose a Wifi from a list because some of them have a strong signal strength and some have bad. To be helped before connecting (until you realize that the connection is slower), Google is providing a new “Speed Label” on the Wifi list for Android.

These Speed labels give an overview of the speed of the connection. The labels show up under the network name in the list of available WIFI connections. The speed of the connection is categorized into four general tags i.e Slow, Ok, Fast, or Very Fast. Google further explained these tags on its Google’s Support page.

    • Slow: If you can use Wi-Fi calling, you can make phone calls and send texts.
    • OK: You can read web pages, use social media, and stream music.
    • Fast: You can stream most videos.
    • Very Fast: You can stream very high-quality videos.

If you want to turn off this feature, you can go into your phone’s WiFi preferencesand open the Advanced section. From there, just have to locate the Network rating provider and switch it to None.

Google mentioned this Speed Label feature as they announced the rollout of Android 8.1 back in December last year. For this Speed Label feature, one must own a smartphone that is running an Oreo 8.1 update. For the time being, Andriod Oreo 8.1 is only available on Google’s Pixel and Nexus devices.

Apple and Malala Shake Hands to Educate Poor Girls in Pakistan

Apple has announced distinctive partnership with Malala Fund. The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, is concerned for the education of little girls.

According to a press release on the company’s website, 130 million girls are out of school. Poverty and gender inequality only adds to the number. Something has to be done.

“We believe that education is a great equalizing force, and we share Malala Fund’s commitment to give every girl an opportunity to go to school.”

    Apple’s Help

Tim Cook will join Malala Fund leadership council. Apple’s project shall be paired with Gulmakai Network (a program named after Malala’s anonymous pen title). It will double the number of grants and 100,000 more little girls could get secondary education — for a start.

Apple intends to help in technology, curriculum and research. The company will also help make policies to erase stereotypes that haunt school walls.

Yousafzai understands the value of the generous offer.

I am grateful that Apple knows the value for investing in girls and is joining Malala Fund in the fight to ensure that all girls can lead without fear.

Malala Fund currently operates in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Syrian refugee areas in Jordan and Lebanon. With the help of this project, secondary education for girls could extend to Latin America and greater parts of India.

Poverty serves as a greater challenge against education — for both little girls and boys — in Africa and the greater Middle East. The public is hopeful that these countries will receive assistance from Malala Fund as well.

For now, Apple and Yousafzai are on a glorious mission to provide twelve years of secure education for little girls. And it has begun.

Whatsapp is working on to prevent chain-mailing and spammy messages

Recently Whatsapp is working on an alert to stop spammy chain messages that will warn users about the fake and spammy messages.

Two of the sites have provided the screen-shots which demonstrate the spammy message alert. This is how this new feature is expected to work, Whenever someone will receive a spammy message the will see a note written under sender’s name ” forwarded too many times” and if one try to forward it further they will receive a notification that message has been forwarded too many times hence could be fake or Spam. This might not solve the problem completely but sites have reported that it will surely minimize the spamming.

    SOURCE: Whatsappen.com

Whatsapp haven’t talked publicly about it.They aren’t sure about implementing this feature in the future yet. From the article posted by Whatsppen.com its clear that they are working on eliminating the spam from the Application. According to WABetainfo.com:

This is absolutely false, but not well-versed users may believe to these messages, or they may be bothered for them.

also read: Snapchat’s new update made socializing easier for the users…..

They hinted some of the details about this new project that Whatsapp will allow you to report the message and if they will receive greater amount of reports they will block the following user. Whatsapp is also looking forward to auto detect the Spam to slow down the spread of the spammy messages.

Apple’s new update protects devices from Spectre flaw

Apple has released new security updates for iPhones, iPads, and Macs to protect users from a computer chip vulnerability known as Spectre.

Last week, security researchers revealed major flaws — called Spectre and Meltdown — in chips that affected billions of devices around the world. Tech companies, such as Microsoft (MSFT), Google (GOOG), Apple and others, scrambled to issue patches to prevent hackers from taking advantage of the vulnerabilities.

The latest mobile update, iOS 11.2.2, includes security improvements to Apple’s Safari browser and WebKit, its software for web pages, the company said on its support page.

iPhone and iPad users are urged to update their software immediately via the device’s General Settings section.

Meanwhile, Mac users can now install macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 for the same Safari fixes for laptops and desktops. The download is now available from the App Store under “Updates.”

Apple (AAPL) said last week all of its iOS and Mac devices were affected by the flaws, and it already released updates to mitigate against Meltdown. Now, Apple users can be protected against Spectre, too.

    Samsung Release Another Orea Update

Both flaws affect something called “speculative execution” in modern computer chips, but they can be abused in different ways. One variant of Specter could be exploited through web browsers, which is why Apple issued fixes for Safari.

Although companies continue to roll out fixes, experts say hackers may soon attempt to exploit the flaws on devices that haven’t been updated. But it’s unclear how easy it would be to do so. The flaws are believed to be more complicated to exploit than other common methods.

Google also released mitigations for its many of products, and said a fix for its Chrome browser will be available later this month. Meanwhile, Microsoft issued updates for its Windows and cloud products.

The good news is users who keep their web browsers, apps and devices up-to-date should be protected from anyone trying to exploit these vulnerabilities.

Im not a Person Behind Zainab Death Viral Person on Social Media

Social media’s influence and outreach is an undeniable force in today’s world. Few years back many controversies went unchecked because of the lack of people’s attention towards them.

However, in today’s world where social and electronic media are at their peak of popularity, burying a news has become almost impossible. Something similar happened yesterday. The story of Zainab, a seven-year old girl, went viral after she was found brutally murdered.

During these times, people need someone to blame and to let their anger and rage out on someone. But sometimes we forget that an innocent person might get in the way of someone’s ignorance. This is something that a lot of people need to be mindful of as well.

Yesterday, the police released a working sketch of the suspect and people were quick to share it over social media. During all this, someone spotted a guy named Waseem Khattak, and without a second thought, started sharing his photo over social media.

The original post claimed that he was the one involved in Zainab’s killing. Many people shared the photo of Waseem without any solid evidence linking him to the crime. Waseem responded with a video clarifying that he isn’t the murderer and that he is a resident of Rawalpindi.

Here is Waseem’s video clarifying himself.

    Waseem Khattak’s Response

Waseem says that he is a follower of Tahir ul Qadri and has been following Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) for the past 10 years. He told that he and other members of the party went to the airport to receive Zainab’s parents. They were directed by the party to receive them and put them on bus to Lahore. When they met Zainab’s parents at the airport, someone took the photo and started sharing it on social media.

All of a sudden the post went viral claiming that Waseem is the killer. He was wrongfully framed as sharing a resemblance with the person in the sketch. Waseem told that he is a resident of Rawalpindi and currently Vice President of PAT Youth Wing Rawalpindi.

He clarified that he has nothing to do with Zainab’s killing. He said that people who shared the post should be ashamed of themselves. Waseem said in the video that he and his party have been continuously speaking and working against injustice in the soceity.

No doubt social media is a great tool of influence but we should show responsibility while sharing unverified posts that are accusing someone without any proof.

Intel Faces Three lawsuits over Chip-security flaws

Intel faces three lawsuits after the chip security flaws known as Spectre and Meltdown were reported by the researchers at ‘Google Project Zero’ few weeks ago. This flaw is largest chip security flaw ever faced by companies which causes your sensitive data to be easily accessible. Researchers said that these flaws are affecting every processing chip manufactured in the past decade. Although ARM based chips are not affected by the meltdown

Three major types of companies are affected by these flaws including processor companies operating system companies cloud providers. The security vulnerability was reported last year in June by researchers but it was not publicly revealed. Intel claimed that:

Intel believes these exploits do not have the potential to corrupt, modify or delete data.

The flaws are forcing the redesign of Kernels of some of the most known operating systems like Windows and Linux although Microsoft has already released a patch to mitigate the flaws but that will not fix the chip bug completely. The latest patch introduced by Microsoft in latest windows update is might not be compatible with the anti-virus softwares but Microsoft said that they are working for the betterment of the devices.

also read:Apple Apologizes for not clarifying the slowing down of iPhones

    What is Meltdown and Spectre?

The Meltdown and Spectre are the largest chip flaws ever.According to the research the modern CPUs use “Speculative execution” of data in order to increase the performance. Meltdown is a flaw that exploits the data to the hacker and thus makes it vulnerable. Data like your passwords your personal information and the application data which is stored in kernel’s memory is easily accessible by hackers due to this flaw. Meltdown, therefore, requires a change to the way the operating system handles memory to fix. On the other hand Spectre is not that of a big deal but its way more complicated to fix.

Intel says that they have released a new update and patch up that should fix it but according to research the companies have to redesign the chips and the patch ups can lower down the performance of the processors down to 30%, which intel denied and said:

Intel continues to believe that the performance impact of these updates is highly workload-dependent and, for the average computer user, should not be significant and will be mitigated over time.

    Class-action Lawsuits

Three class actions Law suits were reported by the plaintiffs in America over the Meltdown and Spectre chip flaw. The lawsuits cite the chip security flaws that are making sensitive data vulnerable. Further lawsuits cite the Intel’s late response to these flaws and acknowledging its customers about the flaw it was already reported by researches last year in June and the significant degrade in performance of the CPUs after the installment of patch ups. Intel responds to laws suits and said:

“confirm it is aware of the class actions but as these proceedings are ongoing, it would be an inappropriate to comment”.

Since all of the Apple products are Intel and AMD based, Apple also responded to the flaws. ‘Apple has already released mitigations in iOS 11.2, macOS 10.13.2, and tvOS 11.2 to help defend against Meltdown’ Apple said. Apple claimed that these updates will mitigate the exploitation of sensitive data through safari browser. although the Apple watch is unaffected by any flaw. According to apple the performance of the devices will not be affected by the new update.

Our current testing indicates that the Safari mitigations have no measurable impact on the Speedometer and ARES-6 tests and an impact of less than 2.5% on the JetStream benchmark.

    PTI Chairman’s 3rd Marriage

    imran khan

On Friday, a local newspaper professed that Imran Khan, ex-cricketer and now politician, had already married for the third time. This news spread throughout the country and became the hottest topic for the weekend. People took over social media, commenting their views on PTI Chairman’s possible marriage.

PTI members first denied the news and refused to speak about it, referring to it as Khan’s private matter. But later an official statement was issued by PTI. According to a statement issued by the party on Sunday, Khan had proposed marriage to Bushra Maneka, who has asked for time to make a final decision after consulting her family, including her children.Khan’s party says that if Maneka and her family would accept the proposal then Imran will announce it himself. Till then it has been requested that the media should respect his privacy.

His new soul-mate is none other than the lady he used to visit for spiritual guidance. Bushra Maneka, who is in her 40s and is believed to be a respected Pir in Pakpattan. Maneka is separated from her former husband, son of former Federal Minister Ghulam Farid Maneka.

She has five children from Mr Maneka, two sons and three daughters. Bushra’s two sons are currently studying abroad. While her eldest daughter, Mehru, is the daughter-in-law of Punjab MPA Mian Atta Muhammad Maneka. Her former husband has previously served as the assistant collector, deputy collector and additional collector in different parts of Pakistan and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi last month approved his promotion in BPS-21.

On the other hand, The PTI chief was married twice but none of his marriages worked. His first marriage was to Jemima Goldsmith, a British Pakistani journalist, in 1995. Mr. Khan and Jemima ended their marriage in 2004. Khan has two sons who currently live with their mother in London. Imran married again in 2015. This time with a famous BBC weather girl, Reham Khan. This was second marriage for both Reham and Imran. Sadly, this marriage lasted only for 10 months and the couple parted their ways on 30 October 2015.

Now, Mr. Khan is getting married for the third time. We wish him good luck for his upcoming married life and hope this marriage will work out, unlike the previous ones.

Google pushes VR further with standalone Daydream headsets

While Google was quicker than other tech firms to bring virtual reality to phones a few years ago with its Cardboard initiative, interest in mobile VR seems to have dropped off lately. The company is hoping to drum up excitement again by partnering with gadget makers to launch standalone VR headsets that not only work without phones, but also promise more immersive experiences with its Daydream platform.

Lenovo and Yi are the first brands to team up with Google this time around; the former has just unveiled its Mirage Solo headset. It comes with WorldSense technology that tracks your head movement and mirrors it in virtual spaces, so you can not only look around by turning your head, but also duck incoming fire, bank to either side in your vehicle, and jump over obstacles – actions which would previously have required external sensors and wiring.

As with Google’s own Daydream headset, the Mirage Solo comes with a wireless controller for additional control in experiences, and for navigating the Daydream app ecosystem (which includes apps like YouTube VR and Google Street View).

Oh, and since it doesn’t connect to your phone, you won’t run out of juice by the time you’re done with a VR game. The Mirage Solo boasts seven hours of battery life. Lenovo says that it’s designed the headset’s straps to better balance the weight of the device and to allow for easy size adjustments, so you might actually care to use it for long VR sessions.

The launch comes at an interesting time: HTC recently launched its Vive Focus standalone headset for China, and took to CES to show off the high-end Vive Pro. Plus, Facebook-owned Oculus has partnered with Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi to build its $200 Oculus Go. While Lenovo’s offering features a Snapdragon 835 processor that’s more common in today’s phones, HTC’s headsets are designed to deliver higher fidelity graphics at high resolutions.

What’s still unclear is just who these devices are for: VR still feels like a new frontier that hasn’t yet fully captured the attention of casual mobile gamers or those who prefer consoles and PCs. There’s also the question of pricing; Lenovo hasn’t specified what the Mirage Solo will cost, so it’s hard to say whether this is ideal as a gift for someone who’s never tried VR before, or a must-buy for VR enthusiasts who want to untether their phones from their older headsets.

The tech is improving and problems like being tied down with cables are being solved rapidly, but the challenge of getting people to make a habit of entering VR is a whole different ball game. Let’s see if Google can score with its new standalone gear when it becomes available in the second quarter of this year.

Paying women less than men is now illegal

Most people around the globe don’t understand the fact that women if provided with a comfortable working environment in society, could become the economic strength of any nation. If we hold women back, it means we are holding our economy back. Well, people seem to be ignoring the reality over an over, the authorities in Iceland, a Nordic Country have taken a bold step by implementing regulations to solve one of the major problems of women these days.

According to a new law in Iceland, eployers in the country have to give proof that they pay men and women equally for the same job. If any employer fails to do so, it might be fined due to the offense.

Iceland is going to be the first country to fight gender pay gap proactively by forming regulations. The corporates are now bound to pay women equally to men for a job with same nature, in order to get certification from the govt. The law will be implemented from Monday and all the organizations with at least 25 full-time employees are bound to follow the law.

Those firms which have over 250 employees are supposed to get certified by the govt by the end of the year 2018. Meanwhile, smaller organizations will follow the same pursuit but in the latter year, depending upon the number of employees they have. According to the current legislation, the estimated fines for not following this law will be around $500 per day.

Due to socio-economic barriers, women in Pakistan are not allowed to go out and do jobs. Especially in the sector where there is less male to female ratio. A recent report deemed Pakistan as the 4th worst country for women indicates that only 24% of women in Pakistan are employed. National level steps are required to encourage women to join the workforce and educate male members of the family that women deserve to earn and be independent.
